We had so much fun in Rochester!
I gained 4 pounds. We ate candy or cheese or fried food everyday. So much for good intentions.
Kitty, yin to my yang, took us everywhere.
In order:
Rochester Falls
Magnolia Cafe
Watson's Candy Store - saw it on the Food Network, they make sponge candy
the Erie Canal
the best pizza ever (I really think that's where the 4 pounds came from - I couldn't quit till it was gone)
I bet you think I'm finished. That was just day 1. Remember we arrived at 3 in the afternoon! Oh, that Kitty!
On Friday, Phil went to work with John, and we went to the most fabulous YMCA I've ever seen. Sadly, the 45 minutes we spent on the treadmill did not erase all that pizza from the night before, but I give myself an A for effort. This was "my" day. By which I mean we didn't do much. We did go out to dinner. Elle put away more fried calamari than I actually thought was possible.
The following day we saw
Rochester Public Market (Farmers Market - Voted #1 in the country)
Anchor Bar in Buffalo - where buffalo wings were created, they're okay. I mean, they're buffalo wings.
Niagara Falls
Canadian drugstore (my favorite - I love to see what OTC things they have that we don't. I know, I'm weird.)
Indian food - nothing special - John just wanted Indian food, found out girls like naan and that's about it
The next morning it was to a
sugar house to see how maple syrup is made - it was the Maple Syrup Festival
eat pancakes with aforementioned syrup
and on a hike.

CAMP FERN
It's Spring Break, and I'm filling out the paperwork for Camp Fern. It will be my daughter's 3rd year to go.
She'll be gone for 28 days - pretty much all of June. I think it's her favorite time of the year. Not that she doesn't love us, but we are always bugging her to do stuff.
My husband and his father went to this camp. My husband was six when he pitched a fit to go. I didn't let my daughter go until she was eight. I think the chances of a kid getting to go to camp if one of his parents didn't go are very low - especially 4-week camp. My friends and family were really worried the first year she went. I was worried, too, but I kept my mouth shut.
When we dropped her off the first time, I was in a hurry to get out of there. My husband wanted to know why I was acting so weird. I didn't tell him until later, but my kid wasn't crying and I wasn't crying, and I didn't want that situation to develop. So I thought it was best to just leave. I believe I was right. The second time we dropped her off, I was happy to be shown around the camp, but my daughter was just as happy for us to go ahead and leave. So we did.
Two months till camp. My daughter's counting down the days.

STRAWBERRIES
Look at these huge strawberries I just got at Central Market. This is the right time for strawberries. They are really sweet now.
TRAPPEY'S HOT SAUCE
How do people in Fort Worth not know about Trappey's Hot Sauce? For the second time in two weeks, my friends have not known what I'm talking about. I could understand if they were from New York, but one is from Paris (Paris, Texas) and one is from Weatherford.
I asked them, "What do you put on your greens?" Then, I tried to explain what it was in case they just didn't know the name. It's just tabasco peppers covered with vinegar. When I was a kid, my mom would refill the bottle with vinegar several times before buying a new bottle. I think it's worth the money (97 cents) to go buy a new bottle, so it's hot and not just sour. It's available at Central Market, but they don't have it at Target.
I put it on my greens and weirdly, I like it on Starkist Albacore Tuna instead of lemon juice. Sometimes I dig the peppers out to make a Chicago Dog, since I can't find sport peppers in this town.
